From Rosegarden to Lilypond: some issues

Leszek Wroński
Guys,

my current goal is to set a small cantata I have in a (copy of a) manuscript in Lilypond. I've been doing stuff like this for years inserting notes by hand and thought I'd finally use a proper tool. So the idea is:

1. to record all the staves using Rosegarden;
2. make Rosegarden export a very basic score in a way recognized by Frescobaldi, that is, Lilypond itself or MusicXML (I used the latter standard many times using Finale);
3. make the score actually usable for performance using Frescobaldi.

I recorded two staves -- Violin 1 and BC. (Never mind the mistakes I made.) Now, in the Notation view everything looks alright:

apart from the fact that the first note in the BC is yellow(?). I decided to forget about that.

Now, this is the best thing I could obtain using 'Lilypond preview':

Please notice a curious double note right at the start of the BC staff. And weird slurs. I thought 'this actually looks OK; I'll get this thing sorted out using Frescobaldi in no time!'

But nope. Here's what I get after exporting a Lilypond file in the newest version Rosegarden 13.06 supports (2.12) and loading it in Frescobaldi:

Not only is the double note in the BC there, but also please notice the weird (for me at least) style of writing pitches in the score editing window to the left. I've never seen anything like that
and it's unworkable for me.

And here's what I got importing a MusicXML file generated by Rosegarden in Frescobaldi:

Notice more double notes, this time in the Violin staff, too. (I got the same results when running musicxml2ly and loading the .ly file.)

Exporting MIDI and running midi2ly lead to even weirder results.

So the piece looks alright only in Rosegarden's notation window. Among the others, the one that looks the best is the Lilypond preview of Rosegarden itself.

Are there any magic tricks I could use to get Rosegarden to export a Lilypond file which would correspond more with Rosegarden's notation view? Or just any tricks I should know about when attempting to use Rosegarden as a first link in a Lilypond production chain? (I already read http://www.rosegardenmusic.com/wiki/creating_a_rosegarden_score_for_lilypond_export . Normalizing rests did not help.)

In the meantime I will try to get the absolute newest versions of both Rosegarden and Frescobaldi.

I'd be very grateful for any pointers.

Best regards,

Leszek.

The yellow note in RG tells that two notes are in the place.
You can move one of these notes away with the mouse then delete it.

That's the Lilypond translation of RG's yellow note.
